So she gave me a wrong price but made me sound like the dumb one for believing her. And she doubled the price! Sorry, but I'm not paying double just because she made the phone call to get the stone. I'm definitely not going back to Duke's because of this experience.
I was shopping for a new wedding set and really wanted a Montana sapphire as the center stone. The person that Duke's gets their gems from didn't have any, so the salesperson I worked with made a 3 phone calls and found a gem cutter who sells Montana sapphires for $450/carat. He said that he'd send a few down to the store for me to see. The salesperson was raving at what a great deal that was and how I'd probably be paying $450 to $600 at most (depending on what size of stone I chose).
I love Dukes, The ladies there are so kind and friendly. When looking for an engagement ring, I went to Fred Meyer Jewlers, Jareds, and Sierra West. They all seemed to pressure me, and get me in the door with a marketing tactic, that was to good to be true. I spent several hours at Dukes the looking over my options. I came back 3 additional times to look, and then called several times with questions I had. Not once did I ever feel that they were frustrated with me, or just wanted to make a sale. I had decided on what diamond I wanted, and after talking to the ladies there, they showed me a diamond that was a better quality. They actually showed me with one of their lighting tools. They then proceeded to explain why this diamond would be better for me, at the same price. They definitely had my best interest in mind. I found out that Richard, the actual jeweler there uses a laser solder that uses the actual material of the ring to solder the band that the engagement ring together. He is the only one in the state that does this. It keeps the value of your ring up. My wife LOVES her ring, and he have had many compliments about it. We stop by to get her ring cleaned free of charge, and they know us by name, and ask us follow up questions from our previous conversations. They have the small town feel that I love and am used to from growing up. The kind of feeling that if something is wrong, they will make it right! I'm always proud to tell people I bought my wife's ring at Dukes, and I that's where I'll keep my business as well. Thank you Duke's for having old fashioned values, in today's world! I stopped by a couple weeks later to see if the stones had arrived, and the same salesperson said, "I don't think I made this clear last time. There will be a markup on the stones. It'll probably be about $900." WHAT?!?! Then she made it sound like it was ridiculous for me to even think that I could ever get a stone at the gem cutters price.
Fantastic experience. It's a small store with a huge selection. I went in just to see what they had available for valentine's day gifts and wasn't expecting much but I was wrong. The lady that helped me was knowledgeable and happy to show me different options and there were many great options in my modest price range. When the transaction was completed I was pleasantly surprised that they included chocolates, flowers, and a restaurant gift certificate all from other great local businesses. Duke's is my new go-to jeweler
They did an awesome job on my wife ring. Will always go here for jewelry needs.
